MOIC Conference in Wroclaw, Poland

MOIC, together with Wroclaw Medical University, the Polish Society of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapy, and the Regional Specialist Hospital in Wroclaw Research and Development Centre, have brought together a range of speakers from across Europe for an exciting conference to explore the role of Pharmacists in the ward Team.  Keynote speakers, plenary sessions and parallel sessions will focus on developments and best practice in ward Pharmacy.

The aim of the conference is to share learning and experiences on optimising patient care from successful ward pharmacist models, including the award winning Northern Ireland model, stimulate development and implementation of similar models locally and build collaborations and networks.

It is intended that the conference will inform, motivate, excite and inspire further service improvement, research and innovation in medicines use in Poland and across Europe.

This two-day conference will be held in Wroclaw University, Poland, on 7 & 8th March 2019.

JoMO-UKCPA Pharmacy Respiratory Workshop Birmingham 14th March

Thursday 14 March 2019 sees the annual JoMO-UKCPA Workshop for Respiratory
Medicines Optimisation taking place once again in Birmingham.
The programme has been devised in cooperation with the UKCPA Specialist Respiratory
Group and will reflect the latest practice and developments in respiratory medicines
optimisation.
As in previous years, the meeting is available at no cost to all pharmacists and pharmacy
technicians across the UK.
Chief Executive of Pharmacy Management, John Stanley, remarked “This is the third year
that we have produced this conference with UKCPA and we are privileged to have so
many top-class pharmacists delivering satellite sessions. In 2018 we had a significant
increase on numbers to the previous year and we fully expect that trend to continue.”

MOIC and Pharmacy Success at Chairman’s Awards

The Northern Trust held its annual Chairman’s Awards at the Tullyglass Hotel in Ballymena in December to celebrate the success of dedicated teams and individual staff.

The Regional Prescribing Support Pharmacy Service was the overall winner in the Partnership Award Category and the IMPACT Agewell (Involving Care to Prescribe Alternative Care Together) Team was Runner-up in the Integrated Services Award Category.

The awards recognise and reward colleagues who work to deliver high quality, effective and innovative services for the benefit of service users. There are six award categories which are based on the Trust Vision and are underpinned by the CORE Values.  

Bob McCann, Chairman of the Northern Trust said: “We are delighted that we have received so many applications, 111 entries in total which shows just some of the great work being done across the Trust. 

“During the judging process it was great to read such positive stories about the pioneering, innovative work that is taking place across the Trust”.

  The awards were presented by Marie Roulston, Director of Social Care and Children, Health and Social Care Board.

MOIC launch new Animation at ESCP

Prof Mike Scott (Director, MOIC) launched the new MOIC animation during his presentation at the 47th ESCP Symposium held at the Waterfront Hall, Belfast, 24-26 October 2018.  The animation, introduced by Seamus O’Reilly (Executive Medical Director, NHSCT), raises awareness of the important role of the Hospital Pharmacy Team and illustrates how healthcare professionals work together to help patients achieve maximum benefit from their medicines and minimise harm.

MOIC Hosts ESCP Visitors

ESCP delegates from a range of countries, including Nigeria, Norway, Indonesia, Italy, Spain and Ireland, visited MOIC on Tuesday 23 October 2018.  The visitors were welcomed by Seamus O’Reilly (Executive Medical Director, NHSCT) and heard presentations from Mark Timoney (Chief Pharmaceutical Officer, Department of Health) and Mike Scott (Director, MOIC).  Delegates had the opportunity to hear more about MOIC and a range of innovative projects and technologies.  In addition delegates undertook a ward visit to experience the Integrated Medicines Management system in operation in the hospital setting.

The visit was arranged in advance of the 47th ESCP Symposium on Clinical Pharmacy ‘Personalised Pharmacy Care’ held in Belfast 24-26 October 2018.

First Celtic Conference for Pharmacy

First Celtic Conference for Pharmacy

The communications company, Pharmacy Management, has announced the launch of the first CELTIC CONFERENCE to be held in Edinburgh on Tuesday 26 March 2019.  The Conference will visit Edinburgh, Cardiff (2020) and Belfast (2021) on a three-year cycle with Edinburgh hosting the initial event. 36 Satellite Sessions and Workshops are planned.

Chairman of Pharmacy Management Ted Butler said “We have been delighted at the enthusiasm we have experienced in all three countries for this new event. Our Advisory Group of Senior Pharmacists drawn from each of the countries has played a
major part in delivering and ensuring that the high quality of Satellites is evenly distributed between all countries.  The United Kingdom Clinical Pharmacy Association (UKCPA) and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Scotland are also partnering with us for this auspicious event”.
