Anita Hogg and Laura Downing represented MOIC at the Northern Health and Social Care Trust (NHSCT) iQi one year on event.
The iQi (Innovation Quality Improvement) initiative was set up to formalise an approach to innovation and quality improvement (iQi) within Health and Social Care in Northern Ireland – which has patient safety at its heart, supported by service improvement to deliver excellent, integrated services in partnership with our community.
Attendees heard from Gill Smith, Innovation and Quality Improvement Lead, NHSCT, on the work iQi have been doing over the past year, and the plan to scale up some of the great initiatives staff within the various trusts in Northern Ireland have been working on.
Guest speaker, Dr John Harden, Clinical lead for Quality and Safety in Scotland talked about the pitfalls of incentivised systems, and how poor housing, social and economic deprivation is impacting life expectancy – and what the Scottish Government has done over the last ten years to improve Health & Social Care through improvement and innovation.
Staff within the HSC showcased the work they’re doing to innovate and improve processes, including smart technology within nursing homes, using virtual reality for anxiety treatment, and reducing post-surgery sickness rates.
The event was held on 21 March 2018 in Mossley Mill, Newtownabbey.
