Professor Mike Scott, MBE, is a distinguished pharmacist and leader in Northern Ireland’s Health and Social Care System. Registered as a pharmacist since 1982, he was awarded his PhD in Pharmacology the same year. Currently, he serves as Director of the Regional Medicines Optimisation Innovation Centre (MOIC), following his role as Head of Pharmacy and Medicines Management at the Northern Health and Social Care Trust from 2007.

Professor Scott established Northern Ireland’s first academic practice unit in 1994 with Queen’s University Belfast (QUB), where he was appointed Honorary Professor of Pharmacy Practice in 2009. His extensive research in pharmacy practice and medicines optimisation has been widely published in peer-reviewed journals.

Recognised for his contributions, he was named a Fellow of the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland in 2004, received the Guild of Healthcare Pharmacists Gold Medal in 2010, and was honoured with the United Kingdom Clinical Pharmacy Association Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016. In 2017, he contributed to the WHO Global Challenge to reduce medication-related harm by 50% over five years. In 2021, he was awarded a visiting professorship at Ulster University, and in 2022, he received an MBE for services to pharmacy in Northern Ireland. Most recently Most recently, Professor Scott received a Special Recognition Award at the Northern Ireland Health Awards for his transformative impact on healthcare and pharmacy practice locally and globally.
