About MOIC
The Medicines Optimisation Innovation Centre (MOIC) is a regional centre in Northern Ireland dedicated to driving innovation in how medicines are used. We combine pharmaceutical and research and development expertise with technology and business acumen to support smarter medicines use and better outcomes for patients.
With a strong patient focus, MOIC is uniquely placed to improve medicines use by developing and sharing best practice through research, innovation, quality improvement and knowledge transfer. Optimising medicines is increasingly vital in the context of an ageing population and the growing complexity of medicines regimens.
MOIC works closely with partners across healthcare, academia and the commercial sector, and actively welcomes collaboration with industry.
What we do
MOIC delivers a wide range of activity, including:
- Research and service development projects to improve patient care
- Knowledge transfer of novel pharmacy systems across Europe
- Development of integrated technology solutions to support better health outcomes
- Training and development programmes for healthcare professionals, both short‑ and long‑term
Although MOIC is part of an innovation and education facility within the Northern Trust, the centre also explores opportunities for solutions to be developed commercially and adopted internationally, where appropriate.
Strategic themes
MOIC’s work is guided by four strategic themes:
- Focus on the needs of patients and the Northern Ireland population
- Accelerate the adoption of innovation into practice to improve clinical outcomes and efficiency
- Build a culture of partnership and collaboration
- Make a meaningful contribution to the Northern Ireland economy
